The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Christians across Nigeria to dedicate the Lenten season to prayer, repentance, and sober reflection as they commemorate Ash Wednesday.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President encouraged Christian faithful to use the sacred period to reflect on life’s purpose while embracing humility and spiritual renewal.
Akpabio reminded believers of the spiritual significance of Ash Wednesday, urging them to remember human mortality and the importance of repentance. According to him, the season should inspire introspection, forgiveness, and reconciliation among individuals and communities.
“As we dust ourselves with ashes, let us remember our mortality and the need for humility and repentance. May this season be a time for introspection, forgiveness, and reconciliation, strengthening our bond with God and with one another,” he stated.
The Senate President also reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to promoting national unity through legislation, assuring Nigerians that lawmakers would continue to enact laws that foster peace, understanding, and cohesion across the country.
He further extended warm greetings to Christians worldwide on behalf of his family, constituents, the Senate, and the 10th National Assembly, prayed for divine guidance throughout the Lenten season.
“May God bless and guide us all on this Ash Wednesday and throughout the Lenten season,” Akpabio added.
