Bauchi State Governor , Senator Bala Mohammed has declared the state’s readiness to attract investors and foster economic growth by providing a favorable business environment.
Speaking at the third Zonal Sensitisation and Advocacy Workshop on Diaspora Direct Investment in the Northeast, organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the Governor, represented by Hajia Amina Muhammad Katagum, Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, emphasized the importance of leveraging Diaspora resources.
“The Diaspora community offers a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and capital that can significantly transform Nigeria. It is time for the Northeast to focus on tapping into these opportunities rather than solely relying on federal allocations,” he said.
Governor Mohammed urged Northeast states to adopt strategies that attract Diaspora investments while reaffirming Bauchi State’s commitment to creating an enabling environment and improving the ease of doing business.
The Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, represented by the Commission’s Secretary, Engr. Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, highlighted the region’s vast resources, including material, mineral, agricultural, and human capital, that could be harnessed for national development.
She revealed that Nigerians in Diaspora have remitted over $90 billion in the last five years through cash, intellectual property, goods, services, and investments. The sensitisation workshop, she noted, seeks to catalyze further engagement and investments from the Diaspora.
Dr. Esther Ahmed, Special Adviser on Diaspora and Multilateral Coordination, echoed the need for stronger collaborations in the Northeast to attract more Diaspora investments.
Dignitaries in attendance included Commissioner for Works, Engr. Titus Kukah; Gombe State Diaspora Focal Officer, Dr. Jamilu Jafaru; Yobe State Diaspora Officer, Alhaji Modu; state lawmakers; and representatives of the private sector.
The workshop is the third in a series aimed at promoting Diaspora investment opportunities, following similar events in Lagos (Southwest) and Enugu (Southeast).
