The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the Nigerian Army with sophisticated weapons and critical military equipment to confront emerging security threats across the country.
Governor Alia gave the commendation on Thursday when he received the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
According to the governor, the Federal Government’s support in equipping the Nigerian Army with modern weapons and combat platforms has significantly strengthened the capacity of troops to address insecurity and protect communities across the country.
Speaking during the visit, the Army Chief assured the state government that the Nigerian Army is reinforcing its operational capabilities to deliver improved security outcomes in Benue State and other parts of the country.
He explained that the acquisition of modern weapons and combat enablers, made possible through the strong support of President Tinubu, will further enhance the operational effectiveness of troops engaged in various security operations.
Shaibu also commended the Benue State Government and its people for their resilience and sustained support to security agencies despite the security challenges confronting parts of the state. He particularly appreciated the cooperation extended to troops under Operation Whirl Stroke, noting that such collaboration has contributed to the progress recorded in ongoing military operations.
The Army Chief further urged the state government and residents to sustain close collaboration with the military and other security agencies, stressing that strong synergy between the armed forces, government authorities and local communities remains critical to restoring lasting peace and stability.
In his response, Governor Alia described the visit of the Chief of Army Staff as timely and reassuring, especially at a period when intensified security efforts are required.
He commended the Nigerian Army for its dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to reinforce ongoing operations in the state.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as they intensify efforts to curb criminality and restore peace across Benue State.
