Renewed Hope Global has expressed deep sorrow over the brutal killing of more than 100 Nigerians in Yelewata and Daudu communities of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. The non-governmental organization described the incident which also involved the burning of shelters housing internally displaced persons as a “gruesome and senseless massacre” that called for urgent national attention.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Amb. J.K. Adebola, the group conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Guma LGA, and the entire state. It also paid tribute to the gallant soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as noble and unforgettable.
“Despite the deep sorrow, we remain hopeful hopeful because we believe evil will never triumph over good. The resilience of Nigerians and the courage of our security agencies give us confidence that justice will prevail,” the statement read.
Renewed Hope Global commended the efforts of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police, and the Operation Whirl Stroke team for responding swiftly and engaging the attackers. The group also called for a comprehensive investigation into the attack and urged the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked down and brought to justice.
“This is a wake-up call. Security agencies must ramp up intelligence gathering, surveillance, and proactive deployment, particularly in border communities like Yelewata. The pattern of repeated attacks within one week is unacceptable,” the statement added.
The organization further urged the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, and humanitarian agencies to immediately provide relief, medical care, and psychological support for the survivors, especially the displaced persons who have once again lost their shelters and loved ones.
“To the people of Benue and all Nigerians: do not despair. Our unity is our strength. Let our voices for peace and justice rise above the violence. Together, we will heal and overcome,” Adebola said.
The group concluded by reaffirming its commitment to national unity and peace, stating that while the bloodshed is heartbreaking, it must serve as a turning point for accountability and urgent reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture.
“Hope is not lost. Nigeria will prevail,” the statement concluded.
