The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has called on Nigerians, particularly leaders in strategic sectors, to prioritise the protection of the nation’s critical assets as a foundation for sustainable development.
Professor Audi made the call while addressing participants of Senior Executive Course 47 (SEC 47) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State. He delivered a lecture on the theme: “Safeguarding Critical National Assets in the Blue Economy for Sustainable Development in Nigeria: Implications for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.”
He stressed that critical national assets, including oil pipelines, maritime routes, and power installations, are the backbone of the economy and directly impact the livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians.
“When we protect critical national assets, we are protecting the ordinary trader in the market, the farmer in the village, the fisherman on our waters, and the children who deserve a prosperous tomorrow. Security is about people, and development is only possible when assets are safe,” he said.
The lecture sparked wide engagement among the SEC 47 participants, who are drawn from various sectors and are being groomed for higher national leadership roles.
Professor Audi further disclosed that the NSCDC is deepening collaboration with communities, security agencies, and policymakers to ensure the blue economy and other critical assets are safeguarded for both present and future generations.
