Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, bail.
Justice Oweibo granted him bail to the sum of N20 million with two sureties in like sum.
The judge had rejected the claim by DSS that it had not received a copy of the bail application filed by Emefiele, saying that there was evidence that the government was served.
Mr. J. B. Dauda, SAN, who filed the bail application on behalf of Emefiele, had asked the court to hear the bail application on self recognizance.
He noted further that the proof of service endorsed by the AGF’s office was in the court’s file.
Dauda also urged the court to end the oppression of his client by DSS and hear the bail application.
Responding, the lawyer standing on behalf of the fedeal government said that she had not been given the bail application, which was waved by the judge.

DSS operatives had, on Tuesday, brought Emefiele at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to face trial over alleged gun possession charges.

Emefiele arrived around 9:20am. His lawyers arrived earlier.
The Federal Government, which is prosecuting him, maintained that the offence was contrary to Section 4 of the Firearms Act, 2004, and punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.
Emefiele is standing trial on a two-count charge of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence.
In the second count, he was accused of having in his possession 123 rounds of live ammunition (Cartridges) without a licence, contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.
