Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away.
According to a statement released by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, General Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a London hospital where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness over the past few weeks.
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari,GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” Shehu posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier tenure as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985.
Further details surrounding his death and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.
