BREAKING: Tinubu extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s tenure by One Year

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

 

The extension, which takes effect from August 31, 2025, is aimed at allowing CG Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives of the administration. These included the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, full implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

 

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, July 31, 2025, by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, President Tinubu praised Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and unwavering commitment to service.

 

The President expressed confidence that the extension will further position the Nigeria Customs Service to deliver more effectively on its core responsibilities, including trade facilitation, enhanced revenue generation, and improved border security.
