Broadway Theatre Festival 2025: Ghana set to showcase Africa’s Heritage Through Dance, Drama, and Storytelling

This October, the streets of Accra will burst into life with the rhythms of drums, the energy of dance, and the magic of storytelling as Ghana prepare to host the Broadway Theatre Festival 2025. The festival, scheduled for October 5 to 13 at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts, will draw performers, cultural leaders, and delegates from across Africa and beyond.

Artists from Malawi, Kenya, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Nigeria, Togo, and the United States of America are expected to join Ghanaian talents in what has grown into one of the continent’s most anticipated celebrations of theatre and performance.

At its heart, the Broadway Theatre Festival is a living celebration of the Heritage of Africa (HOA)—the dances, music, stories, and traditions that continue to inspire today’s creative world. “Heritage is not just what we inherit; it’s what we live and pass on,” said the Festival Secretariat. “This festival is where the past meets the present, and where African voices find new strength on the global stage.”

The 2025 edition will present electrifying performances that fuse traditional and contemporary theatre, alongside panel discussions that explore the deeper meanings of Ghanaian dance and drama. Audiences will also experience masterclasses with seasoned directors and choreographers, as well as a Heritage Day designed to spotlight Ghana’s cultural vibrancy and Africa’s communal spirit.

From the first drumbeats welcoming international delegates at Kotoka International Airport to the final curtain call on October 13, Accra will once again demonstrate why Ghana is regarded as a global meeting point for culture and creativity. More than just an arts event, the festival has evolved into a platform for cultural diplomacy, education, and tourism, showcasing Africa’s ability to tell its own story on its own terms.
