The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) have agreed to strengthen collaboration on integrating the Beneficial Ownership Register, registering host community forums, and enhancing their working relationship.
This was disclosed during a familiarization visit by a delegation from NUPRC, led by the Commission Secretary and Legal Adviser, Mrs. Olayemi Anyanechi, to the CAC headquarters.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Anyanechi emphasized CAC’s crucial role in economic regulation, particularly in ensuring compliance with entity registrations. She noted that the partnership would facilitate mutual interests and improve regulatory efficiency in the petroleum sector.
In his response, CAC Registrar-General/CEO, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji,welcomed the collaboration, assured that the Commission remained committed to enforcing compliance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020. He further encouraged NUPRC to nominate representatives for a direct liaison with CAC to enhance communication and seamless operations.
The NUPRC, established in 2021 by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), is responsible for enforcing petroleum laws and regulations in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas sector. Its regulatory oversight includes monitoring drilling sites, production platforms, crude oil export terminals, and pipeline operations.
Members of the NUPRC delegation included Mr. Augustine Okwah (Manager, Legal) and Queen Torkwasi (Manager, Legal). Representing CAC were Mr. Teerver Ayua Jor (SA to the RG), Sadiq Mohammed Ali (Chief of Staff to the RG), Sani Lere (Head of Protocol), Dorothy Eze Okonkwo (PA to the RG on Media), Moses Enamhe Ushie (PM Media/Publicity), and Mustapha Wambai (SM Protocol), among others.
The strengthened partnership is expected to enhance transparency, compliance, and regulatory efficiency between both agencies.
