Captain Abiodun Folorunsho appointed new Director of Naval Information, takes over as Nigerian Navy Spokesperson

The Nigerian Navy has a new voice. Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho has officially assumed duty as the Director of Naval Information and Spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy, following the approval of the appointment by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas. He succeeds Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who served in the role for over two years and has now been redeployed as Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT.

Born on 27 December 1979 in Benin City, Captain Folorunsho is an accomplished naval officer with an impressive academic and professional background. He holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Master’s degrees in War Studies (Maritime), International Affairs and Defence Studies, Energy Management, and National Security & Strategic Studies, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Ethics & Emerging Military Technology from the United States Naval War College.

Since his commissioning in 2003, Captain Folorunsho has held a variety of operational and strategic positions in the Nigerian Navy. His career span roles on board naval ships, command positions in peacekeeping operations, instructional posts at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, and management roles in indigenous shipbuilding efforts at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Lagos. He also served as a Military Liaison Officer with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.

A recipient of numerous awards, including the Chief of the Naval Staff Awards for Best Graduating Student and the Force Commander United Nations Mission in South Sudan Commendation, Captain Folorunsho brings a wealth of experience in naval operations, public relations, and protocol management to his new role. He has also been actively involved in editorial work, resource facilitation, and public speaking across national and international platforms.

Captain Folorunsho is married to Mrs. Olawunmi Folorunsho and is a proud father of two children. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

The Nigerian Navy has called on the general public and stakeholders to take note of this appointment and extend their cooperation to the new Director of Naval Information.
