The passable view of roads in Southwest Nigeria By abiodun KOMOLAFE

From time immemorial, the masses have relied on constituted governments to implement road projects for the socio-political economy of the society. Whichever government got the construction right would be praised while those who focused on the maintenance would also be eulogised by the masses. However, those who neither got the construction nor the maintenance right would be recorded in the psyche of the people. Hence the adage: ‘The king who sits on the throne in halcyon times, his name shall not be forgotten. Same for that whose reign is turbulent.’…

Between Wike and Gumi, who really owns Abuja? By Lasisi Olagunju

Before Abuja, there was Lagos as our Federal Capital. And this is where I would want to believe that there is something about our North and Federal Capital Territories. Before independence and immediately after independence, Lagos had a succession of two ministers of Lagos Affairs, both were northerners. One was Alhaji Musa Yar’Adua, father of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. There was also Muhammadu Ribadu, grandfather of our immediate past First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari. Years later, Nigeria moved to Abuja and a long line of FCT ministers was…

A Yoruba king’s Sodom and Gomorrah By Lasisi Olagunju

Susanne Wenger was famous as Adunni Oloriṣa. The BBC in 2008 described her as “white priestess of ‘black magic.’” A Nigerian said she was “white priestess of an African goddess.” Until her death in 2009, she was the custodian of Osun Osogbo grove and everything connected to its sacredness. But that task was not what Wenger came to do when she planted her nimble toes in the soil of Yoruba land around 1950. She came as an artist and wife of a linguist. She, however, did more than visual arts;…

Adamawa Inter-Party Coalition has reacted to a statement credited to Elisha Abbo, now a former Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in which he blamed his deserved fate on the Senate President, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio.   Abbo had alleged that Sen. Akpabio had a hand in what he believed was an unfavorable judgment of the Appellate Court against him. Adamawa Inter-Party Coalition has condemned the reckless conduct of Sen. Abbo for over four years. It is sad to note that Adamawa produced the worst Senator in the history…

THE VC OF IBBUL LAPAI & THE PROVOST OF FLAILAS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN THE STUDY OF NUPE LANGUAGE. THEY HAVE A HIDDEN AGENDA AGAINST NUPE LANGUAGE.

Read the message dropped by late Professor Samuel Kolo Tswanya; the former DVC of IBBUL Lapai on Daily Trust of 2015.   It is on this note I strengthened that the VC of IBBUL Professor Adamu Kasim and Dr. Aliyu Busa has a hidden agenda not to allow Nupe Language to Trump to the limelight.   “Like many other Nigerian languages, Europeans have been at the forefront of documenting the Nupe language. For example, the first Nupe-English dictionary was written in 1912 by Reverend Banfield. Again, the same Reverend Banfield…
