The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General CG Musa, has charged the Armed Forces of Nigeria to prioritize efficiency and synergy in logistics operations to enhance joint military operations. He made this call while declaring open the Vertical Integrated Logistics Tabletop Exercise organized by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Department of Logistics in collaboration with the Vertical Integrated Logistics Approach (VILLA) at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai Hall, Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Asokoro, Abuja.
Represented by Major General UU Bassey, the CDS described the three-day exercise, which runs from March 3 to March 5, 2025, as a strategic platform to refine the Armed Forces’ Joint Logistics Policy through a wargaming simulation.
“The conduct of this tabletop exercise comes at a critical time as we consolidate our joint operations. I am optimistic that this initiative will yield pragmatic solutions to the logistics challenges confronting our Armed Forces,” General Musa stated.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support towards strengthening national security and ongoing defence reforms. The CDS also applauded the Vertical Integrated Logistics Approach Team for facilitating the production of the Draft Armed Forces of Nigeria Joint Logistics Policy, which is aligned with the Nigeria National Defence Policy.
Earlier, the Director of Logistics at Defence Headquarters, Major General GAT Ochigbano, explained that the exercise would simulate various joint logistics scenarios to test the feasibility of the policy. He highlighted anticipated benefits such as improved interoperability, cost reduction, and enhanced coordination in both joint and multinational operations.
Retired Major General AO Okoh commended the Defence Headquarters’ proactive approach, urging sustained collaboration between DHQ, the Services, and stakeholders to ensure seamless logistics management.
The tabletop exercise is expected to generate actionable insights that will strengthen logistics planning, implementation, and policy adaptation for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
