The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has held a crucial meeting with key stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, aimed at addressing the challenges hindering the optimization of oil production in Nigeria.
During the meeting, General Musa emphasized the critical role oil production plays in the socio-economic development of the country. He pointed to recent progress, highlighting Nigeria’s oil output of over 1.8 million barrels per day as evidence of significant strides made in boosting production. This achievement, according to General Musa, reflects the collective efforts and commitment of all stakeholders in the sector.
However, the CDS called for more work to achieve the Presidential target of 2.2 million barrels per day. He urged stakeholders to collaborate more closely and urged them to be transparent and objective in identifying the challenges they face, ensuring that the strategies implemented are both inclusive and realistic.
The meeting, convened by the Defence Headquarters, brought together military officials from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe, and oil-producing states. This initiative is in line with the need for effective stakeholder engagement to ensure the sustainability and security of oil and gas operations in Nigeria.
The Defence Headquarters underscored that this collaborative effort would play a significant role in safeguarding the country’s oil resources and enhancing production capacity in line with national development goals.
