CDS Musa reaffirms military ties during visit to Russian Defence Minister

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening military cooperation with the Russian Federation during a courtesy visit to the Russian Minister of Defence, Mr. Andrey Belousov.

 

The meeting, which took place on Saturday, 10th May 2025, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Moscow, was part of activities commemorating Russia’s 80th Victory Day Anniversary a solemn occasion honouring the sacrifices of Russian heroes during World War II.

 

General Musa’s visit underscored Nigeria’s solidarity with the Russian Federation, particularly in recognising the significance of the historic milestone. During the engagement, the CDS highlighted the operational needs of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), identifying areas where Russia could potentially offer support.

 

The Russian Defence Minister, Mr. Belousov, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his country’s readiness to assist Nigeria’s military within the framework of the existing Military Technical Cooperation agreement. He further noted that ongoing engagements including meetings of the Intergovernmental Working Group would consolidate future defence collaboration between both nations.
