CGC Adeniyi honoured as Iconic Maritime Personality of 2024, reaffirms commitment to trade facilitation

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has been named the Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024 by the Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NMJ). The prestigious award was presented to him on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s maritime sector.

 

Speaking at the event, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the momentum of reforms initiated in 2024.

 

“Gradually, we are beginning to restore some sanity in policy formation and implementation, where we play a significant role. In 2025, we will continue ensuring duty collection is conducted in an environment that promotes ease of trade facilitation,” he stated.

 

He also emphasized the importance of unity among maritime journalists and freight forwarders, urged media professionals to engage in training programs that would enhance professionalism and industry development.

 

Chairman of the Award Planning Committee, Dele Aderibigbe, described the award as a unanimous decision by all maritime journalists, highlighted CGC Adeniyi’s exceptional leadership.

 

“This is the first time in the sub-sector that all stakeholders have come together to honor a leader whose professionalism, patriotism, and dedication have made the Nigeria Customs Service and the country proud,” Aderibigbe noted.

 

The award underscored CGC Adeniyi’s impactful leadership in strengthening trade facilitation, revenue generation, and policy implementation in Nigeria’s maritime and customs sectors.
