The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has reinforced stakeholder collaboration and border security efforts with a historic visit to the Emir of Gwandu, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Bashar.
The engagement, held at the Emir’s palace in Kebbi State, underscored the critical role traditional rulers play in supporting lawful trade, maintaining peace, and aiding security agencies in border communities. CGC Adeniyi, accompanied by senior officers including retired DCG Bello Mohammed Jibo and retired ACG Samba Dangaladima, described the visit as strategic to Customs’ stakeholder partnership framework.
“Effective border management requires cooperation beyond enforcement institutions. Traditional authorities remain indispensable in sensitising border communities, discouraging smuggling, and fostering trust between security agencies and residents,” Adeniyi said.
The Emir of Gwandu commended the visit and pledged continued support of the Emirate Council to the NCS and other security agencies, urging residents to provide timely information to curb smuggling and cross-border crimes.
During his visit, the CGC also inspected ongoing projects at the Kebbi Area Command, commissioning the Bashir Adewale Adeniyi E-Learning Centre and a new five-aside football pitch named after retired DCG Bello Mohammed Jibo. He urged officers to remain disciplined, ensure transit integrity, and prioritise professionalism, particularly given Kebbi’s strategic importance for revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.
The visit concluded with a friendly football match on the newly commissioned pitch, symbolising camaraderie and morale within the Command.
