The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has launched the Green Channel initiative at the Lekki Deep Sea Port, aimed at simplifying cargo clearance, reducing delays, and boosting operational efficiency for port users.
The unveiling, which took place on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, mark a major step in the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) ongoing drive to enhance trade facilitation through technology and stakeholder collaboration.
Speaking at the event, Adeniyi explained that the Green Channel, introduced by the Lekki Deep Sea Port and approved by NCS management, was designed to address persistent challenges in container stacking and examination at major ports issues that often slow down cargo processing.
“This particular intervention helps to move containers right from the vessel into a dedicated place where customers can have access. And between the time the container moves from the vessel to this particular place, it is tracked,” he said.
The CGC described the Green Channel as a dedicated corridor for seamless cargo movement, allowing importers and other stakeholders to benefit from minimal bureaucratic hurdles and faster turnaround times. He emphasized that the initiative’s success depends on mutual trust and cooperation between Customs and port users.
“What we have done today is a product of the kind of trust that we have invested in our stakeholders and the confidence that we also have in them, that they would do this in the spirit of compliance and trade facilitation,” Adeniyi stated.
Beyond easing port operations, the Green Channel aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic goal of building a more competitive trade environment. The initiative is expected to lower the cost and time required to conduct business, while also boosting revenue generation for the Service.
