Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed has officially assumed duty as the 22nd Director General of National Youth Service Corps(NYSC).
He took over the mantle of leadership at the NYSC Directorate Headquarters (Yakubu Gowon House) in Maitama, Abuja, today, in a colorful handing over ceremony witnessed by NYSC Management, Staff, Corps Members, retinue of friends and family members of the Director General.
General Ahmed stated that he was taking over the administration of the NYSC at a very unique time in history, as the Scheme will be 50 years old in few months time.
“In this regard, the Policy Thrust that will drive the administration will focus on; improving security, welfare of Corps Members and Staff to engender optimal service delivery to the nation.
“Providing enabling environment for Research and Development for the advancement of the Scheme;
“Strengthening stakeholders’ engagement for the promotion of the frontiers of the Scheme;
“Enhancement of capacity building to stimulate efficiency and higher corporate performance; and
Deepening the impact of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.
“I therefore solicit for the cooperation of all members of Staff and our stakeholders to enable us move the Scheme to higher level of achievements.
“I assure you that I will not only sustain the high tempo but collectively, we will take the Scheme to greater heights”, he said.
The new Director General promised a transparent administration that will pay special attention to strategies that will bring the desired improvement in the general operations of the Scheme.
“Let me assure the general public that the NYSC will always make the country proud. Our participation in all national assignments will be exemplary”, he stated.
General Ahmed commended the Acting Director General for the purposeful leadership she offered during her stewardship of the Scheme.
The Director General also lauded current and past Management of the NYSC for the successes recorded by the Scheme since inception, despite the numerous challenges in the operating environment.
In her speech, the Acting Director General, Mrs Christy Uba thanked God for a successful tenure of office as the 21st Chief Executive of NYSC.
She lauded the immense support of the NYSC National Governing Board, the Management team, members of Staff and other critical stakeholders adding that, “we all worked together in continued pursuit of the NYSC mandate.
“I therefore thank you all for demonstrating loyalty, unity of purpose and undiluted commitment to the success of the Scheme” she stated.
Christy Uba assured General Ahmed that the NYSC Management Team and the entire Staff will give him all the necessary cooperation to enable him succeed.
She also expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for giving her the opportunity to serve as Acting Director General of NYSC.
“I am also grateful to the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, as well as the Chairman and members of the NYSC National Governing Board for their unwavering support including our collaborating partners and members of the press”, she added.
Mrs Uba is the NYSC Director of Information and Communications Technology and the first woman to lead the scheme since its establishment in 1973.
