The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has condoled with the family of the late Rear Admiral USA Chugali (Rtd) during a condolence visit on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
During the visit, Vice Admiral Abbas, on behalf of officers, men, and civilian staff of the Nigerian Navy, expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. He described the late Rear Admiral Chugali as a dedicated and highly professional senior naval officer whose service, leadership, and commitment significantly contributed to the operational successes recorded by the Nigerian Navy in recent years.
The CNS noted that the passing of Rear Admiral Chugali is a great loss not only to his immediate family and the Nigerian Navy but also to the nation at large. He said the late officer’s career was marked by distinction, integrity, and an unwavering sense of duty.
Vice Admiral Abbas assured the family that the Nigerian Navy shared in their grief and stand in solidarity with them during this difficult period. He also offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the departed and for strength and comfort for the family.
He further encouraged officers and men of the Nigerian Navy to honour the memory of the late senior officer by upholding the values of professionalism, excellence, and selfless service which he exemplified throughout his career.The CNS concluded by assuring the family of the Nigerian Navy’s continued support as they navigate this period of mourning.
