COAS commissions Asokoro shopping complex, pledges more Troop welfare initiatives

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday commissioned a modern Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) Shopping Complex in Asokoro, Abuja, described the project as a strategic investment in the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.

Lieutenant General Shaibu said the complex is designed to serve residents of adjoining Army barracks, improve service delivery, and stimulate economic activities within Army estates and host communities. He stressed that troop welfare remains central to operational effectiveness and promised continued support for well-managed welfare initiatives.

The COAS also highlighted the importance of effective management, safety, and responsible use of the facility, while expressing appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for supporting reforms and welfare-focused projects.

Major General Isaiah Allison, Group Managing Director of PHDL, said the project reflected the Army’s commitment to personnel welfare and sustainable development, urging both military personnel and the public to make full use of the complex.
