The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of Operation UDO KA for their resilience, gallantry, and sustained offensive operations against criminal elements linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, in Nigeria’s South East.
The commendation was delivered during the Chief of Army Staff Special Sallah Luncheon held at Mother Valley in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, a location previously identified as a major stronghold of insurgent elements.
Represented by the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, the COAS conveyed the appreciation of Army leadership to frontline troops for their unwavering commitment and recent operational successes. He highlighted their ability to clear entrenched hideouts and dismantle terrorist networks despite persistent threats from improvised explosive devices.
According to him, the achievements reflect the Nigerian Army’s combat effectiveness and growing operational dominance in the theatre. He reaffirmed that the Army remains a disciplined, professional, and mission-driven force, committed to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and safeguarding lives and property.
The COAS also commended the General Officer Commanding 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, for fostering strong collaboration with sister services, other security agencies, and host communities. He noted that such synergy has significantly enhanced intelligence-driven operations and contributed to recent gains in the region.
Reiterating the Army’s “Soldier First” philosophy, Lieutenant General Shaibu extended goodwill to wounded personnel currently receiving treatment, assuring them of continued institutional support for their welfare and recovery.
The Nigerian Army said the event underscores ongoing efforts to degrade hostile elements and restore normalcy across the South East. It also called on residents to sustain cooperation with security agencies by providing credible and timely information, stressed that collective vigilance remained key to achieving lasting peace.
