The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed a strong and unbreakable partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Taraba State Government to strengthen ongoing operations against terrorism and other security threats.
He made this declaration on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, while receiving the Executive Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Colonel Agbu Kefas (rtd), alongside federal lawmakers and members of the Executive Council of the International Institute for African Security and Governance during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed that the Nigerian Army remains firmly committed to its constitutional mandate of supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security across the country. He noted that Taraba State occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s security architecture due to its unique terrain and evolving security challenges.
The COAS commended Governor Kefas for his decisive leadership and effective coordination with security agencies, describing the state government’s support particularly the donation of land and provision of operational equipment as critical force multipliers that have enhanced military operations in the region.
Emphasising the importance of sustained civil-military cooperation, Lieutenant General Shaibu called for continued partnership, especially in providing stable electricity to the 20 Model Battalion, Sarti, and the 23 Battalion. He noted that improved power supply would boost operational efficiency, combat readiness, and troop welfare.
He also urged residents of Taraba State to support security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in defeating terrorists and criminal elements.
In his response, Governor Kefas described the visit as a demonstration of Taraba State’s unwavering solidarity with the Nigerian Army. He congratulated the COAS on his appointment and praised the professionalism, resilience, and sacrifices of military personnel deployed in the state.
The Governor noted that the sustained presence of security forces has led to visible improvements in the security situation and commended the strong inter-agency collaboration among security agencies. He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening support for the Nigerian Army, including assistance with accommodation for deployed troops.
Both parties concluded the meeting by reiterating their resolve to maintain a united and resolute front against insecurity in Taraba State and beyond.
