The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Nigeria, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has arrived in Liberia to participate in the country’s Sixty-Ninth Armed Forces Day Celebration on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.

On arrival, he was warmly received by Major General Davidson Forley, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, and inspected a Guard of Honour in a display of military tradition and mutual respect.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also visited the Nigerian Embassy, where he met Chargé d’Affaires Ambassador Rahmat Muhammad and commended embassy staff for their role in strengthening bilateral relations and protecting Nigerian interests in Liberia.
The visit highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to defence diplomacy, regional security cooperation, and professional solidarity with sister African militaries. The COAS is expected to deliver a keynote address at the celebration, emphasizing Liberia’s military heritage and operational achievements.
Notably, Lieutenant General Shaibu previously served as Military Assistant to a former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order, one of Liberia’s highest military honours, for his contributions to the country’s defence sector.
