The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated a total of ₦161.2 billion in just three weeks using the newly introduced Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu.
Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, who disclosed this in Lagos, hailed the platform as a major step forward in revenue collection and trade facilitation.
Olomu revealed that the revenue was collected between August 1 and 22, 2025, despite initial hitches encountered during the system’s rollout. He commended importers, licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the transition.
“I am pleased with the maturity, patience, understanding and support we have received from our stakeholders. Their confidence in the Service’s ability to resolve network glitches underscores our shared values as patriotic Nigerians who want to see our homegrown ICT initiative thrive,” Olomu said.
The Comptroller noted that the Service’s ICT department has been working round the clock to resolve downtime issues, while the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has sustained engagements with the Nigerian Shippers Council and other stakeholders to cushion the effect of delays on port users.
He further disclosed that discussions are ongoing with shipping companies and terminal operators to facilitate demurrage waivers, added that Apapa Command officers have been directed to extend work beyond normal hours, including weekends, to clear backlogs and reduce delays.
Olomu described Apapa Port as a strategic revenue hub for the Service and expressed optimism that the B’Odogwu platform will soon outperform previous systems deployed by the NCS.
