The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, was named “Financial Man of the Year” for his leadership in stabilizing the naira and implementing financial policies that have positively impacted the economy. The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Anthony Ojukwu (SAN), was awarded “Executive Secretary of the Year” for his unwavering commitment to human rights advocacy, particularly during the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests. Meanwhile, Rep. Clement Jimbo, representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, was recognized as “Lawmaker of the Year” for his impressive legislative achievements and impactful constituency projects.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2025, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the Editor-in-Chief of Core Reporters, Raphael Ekpang, emphasized that the awards followed a thorough assessment of the recipients’ contributions to governance and national development.
He noted that Cardoso’s leadership saw the International Finance Corporation (IFC) partnering with the CBN to boost local currency financing for private businesses, a move that enhanced economic growth.
Dr. Ojukwu was particularly commended for his efforts in defending the rights of protesters and advocating for justice during the 2024 nationwide protests, ensuring that minors and young citizens were not wrongfully prosecuted for treason.
Rep. Clement Jimbo was recognized for surpassing the achievements of his predecessors within just two years in office. His numerous projects include facilitating six federal jobs for constituents, executing 11 constituency projects, sponsoring two bills, moving eight motions, and organizing free medical outreach programs. Notably, he also fulfilled a historic campaign promise by donating a tipper truck to the Loaders Association in Akwa Ibom State, a first in Nigerian political history.
Ekpang stated, “It is our policy to encourage those who are making a significant impact in their respective offices. The CBN Governor, NHRC’s Executive Secretary, and Rep. Clement Jimbo have set remarkable standards. We believe these honors will motivate them to do even more in the coming years.”
