Couple’s Therapy: Pleasant Words by Babalola Alao

Pleasant words between spouse is another life hood of romantic relationship. According to the holy books pleasant words are as an honey comb, sweet to the souls and health to the bones.

Marital union, in modern world now requires a lot of verbal communications, between couples. Providing living expenses like housing, clothing, food, utility bills and maintenance is not the sole responsibility of a man and raising the child is not the sole responsibility of a woman. In the 21st century partners need to engage in verbal communications from time to time in pleasant words. It was said that a pleasant person is friendly and behaves correctly in social situations. A pleasant remark about your partner goes a long way in having a peaceful home. When your Hu or wife is making noise, you don’t shout on g or her, say “please stop making all that noise” that is the polite way of asking someone to do something.

The word please yourself is not a good word in marital life. Express your self very clearly to your partner in pleasant words when he or her is wrong. The saying goes “good words bring out gold from pocket”. The groom and the bride need to understand each other to keep the home going it’s the duties of both parties. The institution of marriage predates record history many cultures have legends concerning the origin of marriage, The way in which a marriage is conducted and it’s rules and ramifications have changed over time,as the institution it self.

The era of groom providing living expenses (housing, clothing, food, utility bills, and maintenance) to the bride, and in return the bride main responsibility is raising the children and being in the kitchen were she prepares daily meal and take care of the dishes, has gone, the up keep of the home is the responsibility of both partners with an explanation from the groom to the bride with pleasant words and in a polite way.

The Bible describes wives as being given the intermost room or the husband’s house,as her own private area to which men are not permitted (242)(243) in the case of wealthy husbands the Bible describes their wives as having each given an entire house for this purpose (244)(245) the modern-day does not give room for this any more.

What couples need is love and the wisdom to work through tough times. Learn to know what keeps you and partner together, work on your behaviour and communication patterns, both parties should try to know their strength and weaknesses, what qualities are missing in their relationship. Together the two of them will set realistic goals which could be any thing from learning how to be emphatic to figuring out new ways to negotiate problems to deciding how to share household responsibilities.
