CP Niger visits Emir Of Minna, seeks support of traditional institution

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman today 29th November, 2023 paid a familiarization visit to the Emir of Minna, HRH Alh. Dr. Umar Faruk Bahago, in Minna,Niger state capital.

In his speech, the CP who assumed duty on 15th November, asserted that the purpose of the visit was to familiarize himself with His Highness and pay homage to the exalted throne, “because to have a good beginning, would ensure that the end would be well”.

 

He noted that it became important to get to know the monarch and receive Royal blessings, as well as to appreciate him for the wonderful assistance, counsel, advice, cooperation and blessings the Police Command has been enjoying over time from the Emir.

 

He said that he was informed of the wonderful relationship existing between the Police and the traditional council and that it is apt that he acknowledged and appreciated him for the good deeds.

 

He therefore solicited support for community policing and a better societal approach to internal security. He reiterated that the dynamics of crime have changed over time, therefore all hands must be on deck, from both the State actors and non-state actors.

 

The CP informed the Emir that the Police, being the lead internal security agency needed every iota of assistance, partnership and cooperation to succeed in providing internal security in the state. He said, “One key institution that is fundamental to partner with the security agencies, most especially the Police, is the traditional institution”.

 

He stated that the Command wished to leverage on the Emir’s influence, spread, authority and the respect accorded to His Highness’s office to help in Policing the people. He further noted that the Emir has strata of leadership across the communities and that His authorization, free hand and encouragement of these community leaders to partner with the Police will go a long way to tackle crime and criminality in our communities.

 

He finally reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to fight crime and the loyalty to the Constitution and service to our fatherland, as well as the respect for the traditional and cultural background toward ensuring a safer community.

 

In his response, the Emir of Minna welcomed the CP and his entourage, as he also congratulated him as the 37th CP in Niger State. He gave Royal blessings and assured the CP of his support and maximum cooperation. He commended previous Commissioners of Police in the State for a cordial relationship and assured of sustainability.
