A group under the aegis of Concerned Rivers People (CRP) has criticized Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, urged him to leave the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, out of his legal challenges at the Supreme Court.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Alex Nwogu, the group accused Fubara and his allies of attempting to tarnish Wike’s image following the governor’s legal loss. The group also took a swipe at Ikenga Ugochinyere, labeling him a “non-lawyer” and an “impostor” for allegedly misinterpreting the court ruling.
“Our attention has been drawn to attempts by some groups and individuals to lampoon the image of the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, following Governor Fubara’s legal loss at the Supreme Court,” CRP stated.
The statement further noted that the prolonged dispute between Fubara and the 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike had reached a legal dead-end, as the governor’s appeal was dismissed.
“The appeal was dismissed with costs, underscoring the frivolity of the entire process. Either way, the legal battle has been fought and won, with the lawmakers emerging victorious,” Nwogu added.
The group also condemned organizations such as the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) and the Opposition Lawmakers Coalition, accused them of distorting facts and unnecessarily dragging Wike into the crisis.
“We urge Fubara and his supporters to accept reality instead of attempting to twist facts. Wike has no role in this, and the truth will always prevail,” the statement concluded.
The political tension in Rivers State continues to escalate, with both factions locked in a battle for control. The latest Supreme Court ruling is seen as a major setback for Fubara, strengthening the position of the pro-Wike lawmakers.
