As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme tagged ‘Customs Cares’, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commissioned a newly renovated Local Authority Primary School and a Primary Healthcare Centre in the Sagbokoji community, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, was led by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to supporting its host communities through impactful development initiatives.
“We are undertaking projects that will have direct impact on our schools and students. We have provided school bags, exercise books, textbooks, and sandals for all the pupils. Beyond this, we’ve renovated the entire school,” the CGC stated.
He added that the NCS would continue to improve infrastructure and build stronger partnerships with local communities, noting that healthcare is also a critical pillar in community development.
Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, described the project as a demonstration of the Service’s compassion and commitment to social responsibility.
“For the past four weeks, workers have laboured day and night, with full support from our stakeholders, to bring this project to completion,” he said.
Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh, expressed appreciation to the NCS for what he described as an unprecedented gesture from a uniformed government agency. “Today, I’m highly elated for this gesture. This is the first time we are witnessing this kind of intervention, and we are grateful,” he said.
Headmaster of LA Primary School, Mr. Oladeyo Emmanuel, also commended the Service, stating that the facelift would boost the morale of both teachers and students.
The event featured the distribution of educational materials to pupils and culminated in the official unveiling of both the renovated school and the upgraded healthcare facility.
