The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Lagos Free Trade Zone Area Command (LFTZ), has reaffirmed its commitment to community development by renovating three blocks of classrooms at the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Ibeju Lekki. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project was commissioned on Thursday, December 19, 2024.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, Deputy Comptroller-General (DCG) in charge of Excise, Free Trade Zones, and Industrial Incentives, Uzor Nwafor, stressed the role of education in nation-building. “By investing in our schools, we are investing in the future of our nation,” she said, lauding the LFTZ Command for the initiative.
Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Olarenwaju Olumoh, highlighted the command’s dedication to improving education in the host community. “A conducive learning environment is vital for advancing quality education,” Olumoh stated.
The Head Teacher of the school, Omolayo Adebayo, commended the NCS for the intervention. “This support aligns with the Lagos State Government’s vision of creating conducive learning environments. We are deeply grateful,” she said.
During the event, CAC Olumoh announced that the command had exceeded its 2024 revenue target. “As of December 18, we generated N341 billion, surpassing last year’s revenue of N74 billion,” Olumoh revealed.
He also disclosed progress in addressing the accommodation needs of officers, thanks to CGC Adewale Adeniyi’s approval for the acquisition of six duplexes. “This will significantly alleviate the burden of accommodation for our officers,” Olumoh added
The commissioning event concluded with an end-of-year party attended by stakeholders, officers, and community members. DCG Nwafor commended CAC Olumoh for his leadership and urged stakeholders to take full advantage of the Free Trade Zone’s economic opportunities.
“LFTZ is a hub for economic growth. It’s not entirely free but is designed to drive economic progress with significant benefits,” she explained.
Stakeholders lauded the NCS for its proactive engagement and officer recognition, reflecting its commitment to excellence in service delivery and community impact.
