The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has pledged deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) to boost trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Adeniyi made this known on Thursday, 21 August 2025, when he received the newly elected NACCIMA President, Jani Ibrahim, and his team at Customs Headquarters in Abuja.
The Customs boss, who highlighted collaboration as a key pillar of his administration, announced the creation of special desks to address challenges faced by NACCIMA members in customs processes.
“When I assumed office, one of the first things I was deliberate about was the issue of collaboration. Revenue and security are important, but to succeed in both, we must also strengthen trade facilitation,” Adeniyi said.
In his remarks, Ibrahim congratulated Adeniyi on his election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council and praised President Bola Tinubu for extending his tenure, describing both developments as endorsements of his leadership and reforms.
He lauded Customs for initiatives such as the Authorised Economic Operator programme, the indigenous B’odogwu digital platform, Time-Release Studies, and improvements to the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report, saying they were already reducing cargo delays and strengthening Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
To further cement collaboration, Ibrahim proposed the creation of a Joint Technical Facilitation Committee comprising representatives of both NACCIMA and Customs.
He stressed that the partnership would lower the cost of doing business and position Nigeria more strategically under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
