The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) have agreed to strengthen collaboration in driving national economic growth ahead of the Society’s Annual Conference slated for September 8–11, 2025, in Abuja.
National President of NES, Professor Adeola Adenikinju, on Wednesday led a delegation of Governing Council members and the FCT Chapter Chairman on a courtesy visit to the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at the NCS Headquarters, Abuja.
Adeniyi stressed the importance of aligning economic research with the realities of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border operations, describing Customs as a key player in enforcing fiscal policies that shape the economy.
Professor Adenikinju formally invited the CGC to the forthcoming conference, noting that Customs’ access to trade and revenue data makes it a strategic partner in shaping economic policy. He also announced Adeniyi’s nomination for the 2025 Distinguished Public Service Award (DPSNES), in recognition of reforms under his leadership that have modernised Customs operations, improved revenue collection, and enhanced trade competitiveness.
According to the NES, the award celebrates public servants whose contributions have had a tangible impact on Nigeria’s economic development.
