The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded major operational successes in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations, with seizures valued at over ₦2.7 billion and annual revenue exceeding ₦86 billion.
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this during his maiden press briefing for 2026, held at the Command headquarters.
Addressing journalists, Adewole said that within one month of assuming office, the Command intercepted contraband goods with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦2,701,762,558.00 across various flashpoints in Oyo and Osun States.
According to him, the seizures included 2,234 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 1,112 used tyres, 562 kegs of premium motor spirit, 124 bales of used clothes, cannabis sativa, codeine syrup, tramadol, used shoes, foreign spaghetti, compressors, pharmaceuticals, and several smuggled vehicles.
Also impounded were means of conveyance, including a Volvo truck, a Volkswagen bus, and three J5 buses used for smuggling activities.
Adewole explained that the seizures were made through credible intelligence, sustained patrols, and strategic enforcement operations across the Command’s area of responsibility.
On revenue performance, he revealed that the Command generated ₦8.37 billion in December 2025 alone and surpassed its annual revenue target for 2025.
“The Command recorded a total revenue of ₦86.29 billion in 2025, exceeding the target by ₦13.13 billion, representing a 15.22 per cent increase,” he stated.
He attributed the achievement to improved compliance, effective monitoring, and the dedication of officers to lawful trade facilitation.
The Acting Controller reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to zero tolerance for smuggling and economic sabotage, stressing that collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders would be sustained.
“We remain resolute in our fight against smuggling and other forms of economic disruption. Our mandate to protect the national economy will be pursued without compromise,” Adewole said.
He also warned smugglers and unpatriotic elements to desist from illegal activities, noting that the Command would not relent in enforcing the law.
Adewole expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde, for his support, as well as stakeholders and the media for their cooperation.
He also thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his leadership and continuous support.
The briefing underscored the Oyo/Osun Command’s resolve to strengthen border security, boost revenue generation, and promote legitimate trade in line with the Nigeria Customs Service’s mandate.
