The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Professor Idayat Bolanle Owolabi, a Nigerian-born scholar and University of Ibadan alumna, on her conferment as a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) by His Majesty, King Charles III.
Prof. Owolabi received the honour in the King’s Birthday Honours 2025 list announced on October 10, 2025, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the health sector in the United Kingdom.
In a statement issued in Abuja and signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa described the award as a “historic milestone and a source of immense pride for Nigerians at home and abroad.”
She commended Prof. Owolabi for her professionalism, dedication, and for serving as a shining example of excellence among Nigerians in the diaspora.
“Her success powerfully underscores the immense talent in our diaspora community,” Dabiri-Erewa said. “We are proud of her and look forward to even greater achievements ahead.”
The NiDCOM boss emphasised the importance of celebrating Nigerians who continue to distinguish themselves globally, noting that such recognitions help reshape international perceptions and highlight the positive impact of Nigerians across various fields.
NiDCOM, she added, remain committed to identifying, celebrating, and supporting Nigerians abroad who bring honour to the nation through integrity, innovation, and professional excellence.
