Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has applauded Nigerian international broadcaster and producer, Gbolahan Macjob, for the global success of his film Ireke, which has set new international records for a Nigerian local language production.
In a statement by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa described Ireke: Rise of the Maroons as a groundbreaking film that has projected African and Nigerian history to global audiences, from the diaspora community to Caribbean and British societies.
The NiDCOM boss highlighted the film’s landmark achievements, including being the first Nigerian local language movie to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Nollywood’s longest and largest UK screening, and the first to hold a worldwide premiere in London, Lagos, and Abeokuta on the same day.
She praised Macjob, an Emmy-nominated BBC World Service journalist and Mass Communication graduate from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, for his dedication to uplifting Nigeria’s global image and mentoring young talents through training initiatives.
Dabiri-Erewa reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to supporting the diaspora community, stressing that Nigerians like Macjob embody the fusion of homegrown skills and international exposure needed to shape Nigeria’s global narrative.
