The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has commended the resilience, patriotism and positive representation of Nigeria by a Nigerian female biker, Ms. Chinyenwa Judith Amadi, and a United Kingdom-based professional boxer, Mr. Odera Okwvosa.
Dabiri-Erewa gave the commendation while receiving both Nigerians at the NiDCOM Lagos office, described their achievements as inspiring and reflective of the strength and determination of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. She said their exploits have helped project a good image of the country globally.
The NiDCOM Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting and partnering with Nigerians in the diaspora who contribute meaningfully to national development and promote Nigeria’s ideals through their professional and humanitarian engagements.
Ms. Amadi recently completed a historic power-bike journey from Lagos to France and back to Nigeria, aimed at raising awareness and funds for cancer patients who cannot afford chemotherapy. She began the journey on October 8, 2025, with a target of raising ₦100 million to support indigent cancer patients across the country.
Despite sustaining an injury to her finger during an accident in Burkina Faso, which required stitches, Amadi remained determined and successfully completed the journey. She described the trip as physically and emotionally demanding, citing poor road conditions, extreme cold weather, long-distance fatigue and discrimination against Nigerians at some West African borders as major challenges.
According to her, the journey was driven by a deep passion to help cancer patients and to challenge societal expectations, particularly for women from conservative backgrounds. “I come from a place where women are not expected to do much, so I decided to ride for a cause and to change that narrative,” she said.
Amadi, who hails from Owerri, Imo State, is also a yoga and fitness instructor. She encouraged young Nigerians to pursue their dreams with courage, advising them to take bold steps and avoid procrastination.
In the same vein, Dabiri-Erewa also hosted Mr. Odera Okwvosa, a Nigerian professional boxer based in the United Kingdom, alongside his brother, Mr. Henry Okwvosa. She praised Odera for consistently projecting a positive image of Nigeria through social media and public engagements abroad.
Odera, who recently visited Nigeria during the “Detty December” festivities, said the country’s rich culture and the warmth of its people continue to draw him back home. He expressed readiness to participate more actively in future diaspora programmes organised by NiDCOM.
Odera is a fitness entrepreneur, media influencer, author and professional sportsman, with multiple heavyweight titles to his credit, including the British University Championship, two London titles, the East Midlands title and the UK National title.
NiDCOM reiterated its resolve to strengthen collaboration with Nigerians in the diaspora whose efforts inspire hope, national pride and social impact.
