Key figures in Nigeria’s defence and internal security architecture, including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, are among top dignitaries scheduled to headline the 2025 Diplomatic and Security International Conference.
The conference, organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN), will be held on July 23 at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Grand Patron of DICAN, will deliver the keynote address.
With the theme “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability,” the gathering will provide a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on practical approaches to addressing Nigeria’s security and foreign policy challenges.
The maiden international conference, under the leadership of DICAN Chairman Mr. Idehai Frederick, will explore the Tinubu administration’s 4Ds foreign policy agenda—Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography—and its application in strengthening national security and enhancing Nigeria’s global standing.
Expected participants included over 75 diplomats, senior military and intelligence officials, heads of government agencies, academics, journalists, and students from select institutions. State governors, current and former lawmakers, and research institutions are also expected to be in attendance.
A high-level panel session, to be chaired by the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, will feature the National Security Adviser (NSA), Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Professor Sheriff Ghali of the University of Abuja, and renowned international journalist, Alhassan Bala.
The conference affirmed DICAN’s commitment to strategic engagement as a tool for peacebuilding and conflict prevention, particularly in light of escalating global tensions in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and other regions.
Organisers assured that the conference will not only spotlight Nigeria’s diplomatic and security priorities but also promote multilateral cooperation and informed national dialogue.
