The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), on Monday, 23 March 2026, officially flagged off the Senior Executive Career Transition Programme (SECTP), a strategic initiative of the Nigerian Army aimed at preparing senior officers for life after active military service.
The programme, implemented by the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC), was inaugurated at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja, in the presence of top military leadership. Among dignitaries at the event were the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, a representative of the Chief of Defence Staff, other Service Chiefs, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, the Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, as well as Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Services Headquarters.
Designed as a two-week intensive course, the SECTP is tailored to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills for a smooth transition into civilian life. The programme covered key areas such as retirement planning, financial management, career reinvention, entrepreneurship development, and the psychological aspects of transitioning from military to civilian environments. It also incorporates corporate immersion sessions, venture support initiatives, and mentorship engagements with accomplished retired senior officers.
In his remarks, the Defence Minister described the initiative as a forward-looking investment in human capital development within the Armed Forces. He stressed that military leadership must go beyond operational responsibilities to ensuring that personnel are adequately prepared for life after service.
The launch of the SECTP underscored the Nigerian Army’s deepening commitment to the long-term welfare of its personnel, reinforcing efforts to support officers not only during their years of service but also in their post-retirement lives.
