The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away on Tuesday in Lagos.
Senator Ezea, born on August 11, 1963, was a lawyer, businessman, and prominent Labour Party lawmaker representing Enugu North Senatorial District, elected during the 2023 general elections.
In a condolence statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the late legislator as a pan-Nigerian politician whose contributions to national development were notable and impactful.
Until his death, Senator Ezea served as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, as well as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Culture and Creative Economy.
Senator Barau noted that the late lawmaker’s dedication to promoting unity, progress, and the Nigerian project would remain indelible.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family of my friend, his wife, Madam Chioma, his children, the entire people of Enugu North Senatorial District and Enugu State in general,” Barau said.
“May God grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss. Senator Okey Ezea was a patriotic Nigerian par excellence, who worked hard to enhance the standard of living of the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and beyond.”
The Deputy Senate President described the news of Ezea’s passing as shocking and a great loss to the National Assembly and the nation.
