The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned Corps Members against participation in protests and political rallies, saying anyone caught would be sanctioned.
He urged corps members to settle down in their places of primary assignment and execute projects that would add value to their host communities.
The Director-General gave this warning today November 30th ,2020 at the NYSC Nasarawa State Orientation Camp Keffi, while addressing the 2020 Batch ‘B’ Stream IA Corps Members at the close of their Orientation course.
Ibrahim, who advised the Corps to put the lessons learnt during the Orientation into use, also enjoined them to live in harmony with others in their service locations while appreciating and respecting the culture of their hosts.
“Keep in touch with one another, blossom the relationship, and with this, you will help to promote the unity, integration and cohesion of Nigeria,” the DG said.
The Director-General also advised them to be of good conduct in their places of Primary Assignment by being diligent in the performance of their duties and obeying rules and regulations.
“You must be disciplined, committed, patriotic and work with passion. Be good ambassadors of your families and the NYSC,” he said.
He warned them against using their personal money to execute Community Development projects but to source funds from members of the community.
Ibrahim further advised the Corps Members to be security conscious and avoid night journeys.
“Don’t board vehicles by the roadside; go to designated motor parks. Don’t embark on unauthorised journey and avoid night travel,” he added.
The Director-General, who advised the Corps members to imbibe the dignity of labour and drive their talents with passion, also urged them, to adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety protocols.
He admonished them to avail themselves of the Post-Camp training of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
He said this would make them employers of labour and also enable them apply for business loans through the Bank of Industry, Central Bank of Nigeria and the NYSC Foundation among others.
He also advised them to avail themselves of the empowerment programmes of the Federal Government, including the Seventy-Five Billion Naira Nigerian Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme (P-YES), and the National Young Farmers’ Scheme (NYFS).
