The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria has announced plans to host its second Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a focus on tackling the growing threat of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI).
The summit is expected to bring together diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders to address the rising impact of disinformation on global security, trade, and investment.
Speaking ahead of the conference, DICAN Chairman Idehai Frederick said the initiative is designed to promote what he described as “collaborative truth” as a strategic tool for safeguarding economic stability and international relations.
“A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment. Misinformation can scare away foreign investors and destabilize local markets,” Frederick stated.
According to the organisers, the conference will explore mechanisms for setting international standards to counter state-sponsored disinformation, enhance the detection and neutralisation of hybrid threats, and promote responsible and accurate reporting.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who serve as DICAN’s Grand Patron, is expected to deliver the keynote address. Other high-profile participants include Gautier Mignot, alongside security experts, regulators, and private sector leaders.
Organisers noted that the summit built on the success of DICAN’s inaugural conference held in July 2025, which attracted participation from more than 60 diplomatic missions, civil society groups, and academic institutions.
By convening key stakeholders across diplomacy, intelligence, media, and business, DICAN aim to strengthen coordinated responses to the weaponisation of false information and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a secure and attractive destination for investment.
