Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria FOMWAN, on Wednesday called on the federal government to stop politicising insecurity in country.
At a press conference in Abuja, President of the association, Hajia Rofia Idowu Sanni, said the scourge of kidnapping of Nigerians particularly school children from their various was becoming alarming and must be stopped before it assumed dangerous dimensions.
“we consider this audacious attacks on educational institutions as a looming disaster for the country as it has discouraged so many children from going to school”She said.
Hajia Sanni said the current unending trend of wanton killings and kidnapping gave serious concerns and called on the federal government to up the game against insecurity by beefing up security in Nigerian before it descent into anarchy.
Government at all levels according to her should put special emphasis on making sure that all those persons found to be involved in the breach of national security should be made to face severe punishment to serve as deterant to others.
The President of FOMWAN also urged women in Nigeria to rise up to the challenge by helping to speak out when things go wrong in the country.
She said as umbrella body of Muslim women organization in Nigeria “we urge for sincere collaboration and cooperation between state governments and the federal government, political parties in addressing this hydra headed situation situation in our country”.
The association further made some recommendations which included, the need for government to reach out to critical stakeholders in the north through consultations to get inputs, engage traditional leaders across the country as well as tasking lawmakers to be in firm charge of their constituents.
