The Initial Languages Legacy and Culture (ILLEC) marked a momentous occasion on January 19, 2025, as it held its 8th matriculation and 3rd convocation ceremony at Kowa Schools in Minna. The event, which celebrated both academic achievements and the preservation of Nupe culture, was made even more memorable by significant donations from Dr. Abubakar A. Kuso and Engr. Salihu Kantigi.
Dr. Kuso, a distinguished philanthropist, announced his donation of a plot of land near the NECO headquarters in Gidan Mangoro, Minna, for the construction of a new permanent site for ILLEC. The donation was met with enthusiastic applause as Dr. Kuso pledged to oversee the development of the site until its completion, a gesture that reflects his strong commitment to advancing the institution’s mission.
Engr. Kantigi, another key supporter, furthered ILLEC’s efforts by sponsoring 30 individuals to study the Nupe language, emphasizing the importance of language preservation and cultural education. His contribution, along with several other donations from prominent dignitaries including Alhaji Salihu Ibrahim Ketso, Alhaji Ahmed Ketso, former Deputy Governor of Niger State, highlighted a collective effort to support ILLEC’s growth and impact.
The ceremony itself was a vibrant celebration of Nupe culture, featured traditional songs, dances, and academic rites. The matriculation ceremony saw new students take an oath to uphold the institution’s values, while the convocation recognized graduates for their dedication and hard work.
