In a dramatic turn of events, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arrested former House of Representatives member, Hon. Gudaji Kazaure, over an alleged N70 million financial link to embattled ex-Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The arrest came just hours after a Kano High Court lifted a restraining order that had previously protected the outspoken former lawmaker from being picked up by anti-graft operatives.
Sources within the EFCC revealed that Kazaure allegedly received N20 million in two tranches through an intermediary named Mr. Eric, reportedly to procure “Sallah Rams.” He later received another N50 million as a so-called donation following a fire outbreak at his residence.
Kazaure, who represented Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, and Yankwashi Federal Constituency in Jigawa State, is currently being detained at the EFCC’s Kano office and may be transferred to Abuja for formal arraignment.
Ironically, in 2022, the same Kazaure had publicly accused Emefiele of mismanaging N89.1 trillion in Stamp Duty collections a claim dismissed by the then-presidency as baseless and linked to a dissolved committee.
With this arrest, the long-simmering feud between the fiery lawmaker and the former apex bank boss has taken a dramatic new twist.
