D’Tigress’ FIBA Victory: Akpabio hails Nigerian Women as Champions, Pacesetters

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has applauded Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for clinching their seventh FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title a record-setting fifth consecutive championship win.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Senator Akpabio described the team’s triumph as a moment of immense national pride and a resounding affirmation of the resilience and excellence of Nigerian women.

“It is heartwarming that within two weeks, Nigerian women have conquered Africa twice. Last week, it was the Super Falcons. Today, we are celebrating D’Tigress who subdued the Senegalese in the semi-finals and mesmerized the Malian ladies in the final,” he stated.

The Senate President praised the team for upholding the Nigerian spirit of discipline, determination, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

“This seventh historic and fifth consecutive title has reinforced the zeal for hard work and our unbreakable spirit. The D’Tigress have once again proven that Nigerian women are not only pacesetters but also global competitors,” Akpabio said.

He further emphasized that such sporting achievements reflect the gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to harness the nation’s potential across various sectors.

“With the support of Nigerians, our country will keep rising. I commend the D’Tigress and their technical crew for making the nation proud and inspiring the next generation of female athletes.”

Akpabio also extended congratulations to President Tinubu, the team, and all Nigerians, described the players as true queens who have elevated the country’s image on the global stage.
