The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, as public holidays to mark the 2026 Easter celebrations.
The announcement was made in a statement on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
According to the statement, the minister extended warm congratulations to Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter. He encouraged Nigerians to use the period to reflect on the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as exemplified in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo further urged citizens to embrace tolerance and uphold values that promote unity and strengthen the bonds that hold the nation together.
He reiterated that the administration remains committed to making decisions that will foster national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.
The statement clarified that Friday, April 3, is Good Friday, while Monday, April 6, is Easter Monday, both recognized as public holidays to allow Christians and other Nigerians to observe the Easter celebrations peacefully.
The Minister wished all Christians a peaceful, joyful, and fulfilling Easter celebration across the country and beyond.
