Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the recruitment of 500 new teachers as part of his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education across the state.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, on Tuesday in Benin City, shortly after his assumption of office at the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Iyamu revealed that the recruitment, which will be carried out in phases, is aimed at addressing teacher shortages in public schools across the state’s three senatorial districts. He emphasized the administration’s dedication to providing adequate staffing in schools, ensuring that every child in Edo State has access to quality education.
Dr. Iyamu stated “The era of having two or three teachers running an entire school is over, “This recruitment drive will focus on merit, and only qualified candidates will be considered. We are calling on eligible Nigerians to take advantage of this opportunity and apply through the official channels. The process is free, and applicants are advised not to pay anyone for assistance.”
The recruitment of teachers followed the recent employment of 360 individuals into the state’s civil and public service, further reflecting the administration’s resolve to create permanent jobs for Edo citizens.
Dr. Iyamu expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo, described him as “a man of his word” and commending his focus on education and infrastructural development.
“This move will ensure that public schools are adequately staffed and that the average Edo child receives the best education possible. A new dawn is here for Edo State, and a brighter future is on the horizon,” Dr. Iyamu concluded.
