Edo Govt to recruit more Teachers, renovate Public Schools

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced plans to recruit more qualified teachers and continue the rehabilitation of public schools across the state as part of efforts to revamp the education sector.

The Governor disclosed this during an inspection of ongoing renovation works at several schools in Edo Central Senatorial District, many of which were in deplorable conditions when he visited them earlier in January 2025.

Okpebholo, who has since declared a state of emergency in the education sector, said his administration remains focused on restoring quality learning in public schools through strategic investments in infrastructure and human resources.

“We are working to ensure we restore quality in our education system and ensure it is affordable, after these renovations, we will employ more qualified teachers to give our children the education they deserve.”he said.

He added that new structures, including classrooms and perimeter fences, have already been put in place in many schools previously neglected by the former administration, to guarantee safety and improve learning environments.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his administration is determined to ensure that public schools in the state can compete favourably with private schools in terms of quality education, infrastructure, and security.

“Our goal is to see every Edo child attend a public school and get quality education that meets global standards,” he stated.

The ongoing renovations and teacher recruitment efforts are taking place across all three senatorial districts in the state.
