The Edo State Government has announced plans to commence the construction of the long stretch of road connecting the prayer ground of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN) at Upper Ekenwan, Benin City.
The project fulfilled a campaign promise made by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The Governor disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Government House by CCRN members, led by their Coordinator, Mr. Otakhor Thaddeus Iredia. He expressed gratitude for the group’s recognition of his achievements within his first month in office.
Governor Okpebholo assured the delegation that surveyors had already mapped the road and that work would begin soon to ensure its completion before the rainy season.
“I remember visiting your church and promising to build the road leading to your prayer ground. That promise has been a priority for me. Surveyors have completed their work, and construction will start soon,” the Governor said.
He also announced plans to reintroduce weekly masses at the Government House and urged the CCRN to liaise with Archbishop Austin Akubueze of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin to schedule a date.
The Governor further called on the group to continue praying for peace in Edo State and the nation.
“I believe in the power of prayer, and with the prayers of the Saints, we will achieve peace and progress in Edo State and Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
Earlier, Mr. Otakhor Thaddeus Iredia congratulated the Governor on his election victory and commended his rapid developmental strides. He reaffirmed the CCRN’s support for the Governor’s administration.
“We are over 28,000 members strong, and we are praying for your success in leading Edo State,” Iredia said.
The Chaplain of CCRN, Rev. Fr. Daniel Iyangbe, also appealed for the resumption of weekly masses at the Government House, a tradition that had been discontinued due to political challenges.
